central data department?

23. August 2018

For many of the large companies, the central data department, which collects company data and makes it available to authorized users, is already a matter of course. For small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), however, there are limits here, both in terms of feasibility and often of a mental nature. However, Industry 4.0 digitalization requires much more advanced systems and architectures that neither the central data department nor SMEs can easily implement.

A central data department can add open data sets or provide corresponding access options as long as it is within the internal “data offering”, but this is far from sufficient for data exchange in the sense of monetization. The internal data must first be processed and analyzed by SMEs and thus made usable for data-driven purposes. In both cases, the security and protection of data as well as data sovereignty or governance play an essential role and are a prerequisite for the steps mentioned for implementation to be permitted at all.

With the data architecture model developed by the Fraunhofer Institute, the services offered by the International Data Space Association (IDS) offer a solution that fully meets these requirements. In practice, Advaneo provides tools and solutions that pave the way into the digital future for large companies and SMEs with its data marketplace and extensive range of open data.
